Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is a beloved celebration that brings people together around a griddle full of delicious, golden treats. But for those with food allergies and intolerances, this festive day can feel more like a minefield of potential health risks. The good news? With a little creativity, understanding and Creative Nature, we can make Pancake Day delicious and safe for everyone.
Food allergies are more common than many people realize. Wheat, eggs, milk and gluten, – staple ingredients in traditional pancake recipes – are among the most frequent allergens.
When hosting a Pancake Day gathering communication is key:
- Ask guests about their dietary restrictions in advance
- Prepare separate cooking surfaces to avoid cross-contamination
- Clearly label ingredients and potential allergens
- Consider having dedicated “allergy-friendly” batches
